Try this to improve the quality of your workout

A mate of mine is a long distance runner who loves to tackle ultra distances. In his own words – he doesn’t suffer from insanity, he enjoys every minute!

On one cracker 90km event, part of his race plan included leaving music headphones, loaded with an upbeat motivational playlist, at the 60km seconding table. He knew he was going to endure a lot of pain and fatigue over the last 30km so he used the music to distract him and let his mind zone in on the tunes. This helped him keep a good running rythm and literally tricked his mind into NOT focusing on the pain messages being sent from his muscles. He ended up finishing in a great time and more importantly, a great mood!

While long distance running is extreme, the same tactic can be used for any exercise regimen. Music and training go well together and can help us get “in the zone” and train harder, for longer.
